Welcome Back! Today was my first official day in the lo'i! Yesterday I was sick so I couldn't be there. I heard they did stomping in the mud and other things. I had been here one other time because of a school thing but today we were pulling kalo and I hadn't done that yet. So we started in plot two to clear out kalo, and we had to make sure we were grabbing the entire plant, with roots and all. This way, we can harvest the kalo core and replant the stem! We did this all morning and a couple of Cain spiders attacked us, one of them crawled up my arm and neck! yuck. We managed to pull out 3 mounds before lunch. So we had lunch, then after we cleaned the kalo we pulled. The process of cleaning is:

  1. get rid of the dirt on the roots with water

  2. remove stems until only two are left

  3. remove the korm and leaves

  4. remove roots

  5. sort the korm based on size

We did that till 2pm and left! I was a pretty quick day! I had a lot of fun in the mud, other than the spider, I can still feel it crawling up my neck. I think we definitely used perseverance as one of our skills today because pulling the kalo is not an easy thing to do. But we persevered and got it done and I'm proud of us! Especially after pulling that much kalo! Also pulling the kalo really gave me sore hands, even now writing this, my hands are really hurting. And the kalo was really itchy, on my hands and feet... But other than that me and Elle had lots of fun the mud, well we did not enjoy falling in there but still fun. I can't wait for Tuesday to see what we do next, I'll update next week!!!

The korm on the right, and the kalo core or root on the left!
