Third day in the Mala, more weeding!! Yay. The first thing we did was we pulled up weedmat from a field we worked on. Then we got to weeding. We first weeded rows that still had paper pots with brocelei in them still, these paper pots are for the plants with seedlings in them still. To get them out of the soil you have to get them out with a pickaxe. Then we took out the other weeds with our hands and got the really small weeds out with a wire hoe or hula hoe. After filling up a bucket or two we would dump the buckets under the ulu trees, we do this to fertalize/mulch the trees soil. Next, we weeded the lettuce rows and carrot rows, that took awhile. We finished the lettuce before lunch but the first carrot row took an hour then we didn’t get to finish the second row of carrot because there were so many carrots and the weeds were overcrowding. It was really hot today so I’m glad I had drank alot of water. Overall, today was a very productive day.

The Mala is so hot, I mean I love working here, its so pretty but the sun has been draining me since day one. I think so much of this weeding is teaching us patience. Weeding takes forever and we have to make sure to get all of the root and get every one in the field. It definitely is better with a team. I feel bad for the workers who have to do it all by themselves all day. I’m glad we could help the Mala team but I didn’t love it there. I am grateful we got to work there and learn how it works!!

Here's some Pictures from today! (All credits to Mrs. Peeler)
